Access Canada - Sensitivity and Diversity Training

An aging population is leading to an increase in seniors travelling and looking to stay at properties that are able to meet or exceed their needs and expectations. According to the 2012-13 ITB Travel Trend report 10% of all world travelers are looking for “barrier free” or “accessible” travel options. The report also found that 48% of this group would be apt to travel more if their accessibility concerns were addressed, and 60% of that group would even pay more for that service and accessibility. This burgeoning market presents hoteliers with a great opportunity to align their operations with this growing demographic.

In response to these demands, the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) and emerit are partnering to offer a national, voluntary program that enables hoteliers to better serve people with disabilities, including age-related disabilities. The program will use the already existing Access Canada Sensitivity Training information and will be offered online through emerit. We are hoping this program will assist in increasing the attractiveness of Canadian properties to this growing market of people.
