Hall of Fame Awards of Excellence - Rewarding Strong Industry Standards

The Hotel Association of Canada’s Hall of Fame Awards of Excellence Program was developed in 2004 with the purpose of recognizing those of its members (individuals, companies, properties) that have demonstrated significant accomplishments, exemplary leadership and tireless commitment to Canada’s lodging industry.

Awards are presented annually to HAC members in the following categories:

Humanitarian Award:
The purpose of this award is to recognize those working in or who are affiliated with Canada’s lodging industry who demonstrate dedication and responsiveness to the needs of the local, national and/or global community.

2012 Humanitarian Award Winner - Kris Crundwell, Pacrim Hospitality Services

Kris Crundwell has been selected to receive the 2012 HAC Award Of Excellence in the category of Humanitarian. Kris receives this award in recognition of his long history as a dedicated, enthusiastic, capable and generous supporter of many charitable campaigns and initiatives. Kris has organized numerous events in his lifetime and continues to raise monies and volunteer his time for the Canadian Federation of Human Societies, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Forces Personnel & Family Support Services and many other not-for-profit organizations. This year Kris personally raised a significant amount of money for the Canadian Diabetes Association while climbing and conquering a volcano in Costa Rica. Kris wholeheartedly embraces the values associated with the Humanitarian award. It is because of his generosity that our communities are a better place to live.


The Human Resources Award:
Given for programs/individuals that develop a climate conducive to new and/or repeat business, create goodwill among guests, provide special services, reverse negative public relations situations or effectively solve guest complaints.

2012 Human Resources Award Winner - Holiday Inn Cambridge

The Holiday Inn Cambridge has been selected as the 2012 HAC Award of Excellence recipient in the category of Human Resources. The hotel’s core values are founded in fairness, service, integrity, accountability, safety, engagement and respect. These attributes are seen throughout the organization in its leadership team and frontline employees. The Holiday Inn Cambridge, through its human resource programs and initiatives led by General Manager Micheline Murawsky, continuously strives to promote an environment that is engaging for employees. Whether being the first IHG hotel in Canada to implement the “Heart of House” program, or honouring employees with Employee of the Month and Year Awards the hotel endeavours to implement employee projects and training that promote a culture of co-operation and teamwork.


The Energy & Environment Award:
Recognizes lodging properties that have developed a culture towards integrating environmental management practices that improve everyday operations and the bottom line, while maintaining quality service and meeting guest expectations.

2012 Energy & Environment Award Winner - The Westin Ottawa

The Westin Ottawa has been selected as the 2012 HAC Award of Excellence recipient in the category of Energy & Environment. The Westin Ottawa demonstrates industry leadership and commitment in protecting the environment through a number of wide ranging policies, practices and creative initiatives that involve management, employees, guests and the public as a whole and have shown substantial and measurable results. The Westin Ottawa has raised the bar by integrating environmental management into every day operations and creating an environmental culture for associates and guests. Since 2006, the hotel’s Green Committee, a highly dedicated group made up of one employee per department, has been the foundation of its success and movement towards reaching the hotel’s environmental goals and reducing their ecological footprint.


The Stephen Phillips Passion For Hospitality Bursary:
This bursary is dedicated to the memory of Stephen Phillips, former Vice-Chairman & CEO of AFM Hospitality Corporation Inc., who passed away from cancer in early 2007. The bursary will be awarded to the hospitality student who best represents the qualities that Stephen Phillips brought to the industry.
