The Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) is pleased to honour six recipients with an Award of Excellence. Each year, HAC recognizes members who demonstrate significant accomplishments and represent some of the finest examples of professionalism, quality, and excellence in the industry.
The winners of the 2018 Awards of Excellence are:
Awarded to Campus Tower Suite Hotel Edmonton for their investment in a human resources culture that attracts, develops, and retains highly qualified employees, resulting in motivated staff who are able to generate new or repeat business, create goodwill among guests, and provide special services. Receiving an Ambassador Satisfaction Index (ASI) score of 90 per cent, Campus Tower Suite Hotel demonstrates exceptional Human Resources practices. Campus Tower Suite Hotel has created a work environment where people who share their values are joined with those who are seeking a career in hospitality.
Awarded to Embassy Suites by Hilton Toronto Airport for an impressive renovation and hotel transformation. The hotel venture marks a significant milestone as the first Embassy Suites in the greater Toronto area. Owned and managed by The Easton’s Group of Hotels, the full renovation is estimated at $18 million. The contemporary hotel is a 255 all-suite property consisting of 206 two-room suites and 49 studio suites. The hotel offers premium rooms on upper floors with panoramic views of the airport and runways. This impressive repositioning project provides guests with amenities and offerings that appeal to every aspect of their experience with us, from business to leisure and everything in-between.

Awarded to TownePlace Suites by Marriott Red Deer for flawlessly implementing a strategy which generated exceptional results, finishing 2017 ahead of average occupancy and lowered ADR to be within $2 ahead of their competitive rate. Most importantly, the team came together to perfectly execute a strategy to maximize guest satisfaction, loyalty, and revenue.
The Green Key Environment Award of Excellence recognizes lodging properties that have developed a culture towards integrating environmental management practices that improve everyday lodging operations while maintaining quality service and guest expectations. The Pacific Gateway Hotel Vancouver is a participant in the Green Key Global program, rightfully earning 5 Green Key Eco-Rating for the hotel and a 5 Green Key Meetings. They are ahead of the curve and demonstrate keen adaptability toward their community and the environment. The Aspiring Hotelier Award of Excellence recognizes the future generation of hospitality leaders. Presented to Megan Reid of the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort, who exemplifies a “rising star” and is actively contributing to the development of potential hoteliers coming into the workforce. Megan has worked in hospitality for over eight years and has served as a hotelier in four different provinces including Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. Megan is truly an influencer for the next generation of hoteliers.
The Humanitarian Award of Excellence recognizes those working in Canada’s lodging industry who demonstrate dedication and responsiveness to the needs of the community. Cambridge Suites Hotel, Sydney, exemplifies the true spirit of giving through volunteerism, inspiration, and donations and is recognized locally, provincially, and nationally as a hotel with exceptional customer service, efficient and ethical business practices as a hotel their guests are proud to call “home”. This hotel has shown outstanding energy and commitment to fundraising, resulting in $1.2 million for their community.
