Rationale:

This is your opportunity to become involved before any new demands on your profits are signed into law. The Hotel Association of Canada maintains a strong lobbying presence in Ottawa. However the real power resides in the activism of its individual members.

The HAC is calling on its Members to join in our advocacy efforts by meeting with Members of Parliament on a local basis to press the issues of concern to the Association.

Our large membership – present in every community – is a powerful weapon for ensuring our voice is heard. That’s why your Chairman, President and Board members are making a concerted effort to encourage the membership to carry the message to local politicians.

We have found that MPs are often more interested in our issues when they are presented as locally important, and relationships which are formed through these contacts can be useful for both the member and the MP going forward.

We invite you to meet with your local Member of Parliament to discuss issues of importance.

On this site you will find information on how to contact your Member of Parliament, speaking notes for a meeting with that person and the Association’s updated policy document entitled: The Hotel Lobby

There is also a mechanism for you to report that you have had a meeting, and offer any impressions to us and other members. This will help us learn from every encounter, as well as keeping track of which MPs we have contacted.

The Parliamentary session beginning in September will be critical. We want Members of Parliament to carry a message back to Ottawa that change is needed to keep Canada’s Lodging and Tourism sector competitive.

Process:

The HAC is engaging each of our Provincial Association Members in an outreach campaign. It is our objective to educate new MPs as they learn new roles and responsibilities as Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Committee Members.

In each Province HAC has identified:

  • MPs and their political affiliation
  • Ministers
  • Leaders of the Opposition Parties
  • Parliamentary Secretaries
  • Committee and Caucus Chairs
  • Critics

Corporate Members of the HAC are asked to work with their General Managers in setting up meetings in consultation with the HAC and the Provincial Associations.

You are the most effective lobbyist for the Lodging Industry. You are the expert on lodging issues and your Member of Parliament wants to hear from you.
