Statement on Swine Influenza

Given the current outbreak of swine influenza in Mexico and the 13 cases reported in Canada, the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) is urging the industry to ensure a high level of sanitation at all times in order to protect against the spread of infection.   HAC encourages hoteliers to stay informed and to develop strategies and precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of employees and guests.

The Public Health Agency of Canada provides up-to-date information about swine influenza and how to protect yourself, your staff and your guests. For more information visit the agency’s website at http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/alert-alerte/swine_200904-eng.php.

HAC has been and remains engaged with stakeholders and government agencies nationwide as we deal with this public health issue. Remember that as of April 29th there have been no reported cases of swine influenza in Canadian hotels.

The HAC continues to provide resources to assist the industry as well as serving as a conduit for information and advice from government and experts on public health issues.
